About the role

We're looking for an Engineering Technician to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Babcock Engineering Services provide staff to act as crew replacement team members (known as S-Role) in HMS BULWARK during her current extended readiness period. This period will include a Docking Period and the post docking readiness preparations for the ship's next operational period. S-role staff will transfer onto HMS ALBION as she becomes the Extended Readiness Assault Ship.

Your main responsibilities will include:
*To monitor the equipment in their charge, audit associated registers and logs, and carry out rounds of machinery and compartments in their Section as required.
*To bring to the notice of the Head of Group all defects, and any undue circumstances discovered during maintenance or operation. To report frequently the progress with defect rectification and maintenance and immediately.
*To enforce safety precautions as laid down in BRd 3000 Chapter 3 and BRd 167, paying particular attention to ensuring that systems under maintenance are 'LOTO' in accordance with the latest instructions.
*To assist the Heads of Group by ensuring that planned maintenance and defect repair is carried out fully, efficiently and to a high standard to achieve the required standard of availability and performance.
*To oversee any work carried out by contractors and arrange subsequent compartment inspections on completion of work. To ensure that work carried out has been completed in accordance with the contract before signing for acceptance of the work.

What do I need to do the role?

You must have the ability to operate and maintain Warship Equipment, undertake repairs and manage allocated sections within the engineering department. Good knowledge of RN Operating procedures with particular skills in the Marine Engineering discipline. Particular knowledge of hydraulic systems, associated fixtures, and fittings is important. Experience of operating and maintaining the hydraulic equipment, fixtures and fittings is necessary. You should ideally have LPD experience.

We would also like you to have;
*The applicants will be ideally qualified to HNC in an engineering / Technical subject or have relevant expertise, experience and specialist Naval support knowledge.
*The Role requires relevant expertise and specialist Naval support knowledge.
*Specific to type equipment course training is included in the contract and will vary upon experience of applicant.

What else do I need to know?
*The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
