SF31773
Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth
£35,460 - £43,735

About the role

Here at Babcock International we are looking for a Design Engineer to join a growing team at our Devonport site. Within the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority you will provide engineering support and advice, and deliver design solutions in support of naval nuclear refit and maintenance activities across the Devonport Nuclear Licensed Site and Ministry of Defence Authorised Site. You will be a core member of the engineering team, delivering design solutions and technical authority responsibilities to the business.

Your primary focus will be maintaining and controlling modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of nuclear implicated process/pressure systems and acting as the custodian of reference design documentation. You will be responsible for undertaking design activities from requirements capture, design development, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal. You will be focussed on ensuring compliance with Licence Conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards, producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses, and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.

And as you're supporting our business, we'll be supporting you. So as well as offering competitive benefits, you will be given the appropriate training to fulfil your role and will have the opportunity to expand your skillset within the engineering industry. Continuing professional development is also encouraged and fully supported.

What do I need to do the role?

You will need a proven background as a Design Engineer with knowledge of pressure systems (pipework, tanks, pumps, overpressure protection etc.), computer aided design and engineering, and demonstrable experience of having applied the whole design lifecycle.

  • Experience in stress analysis of pressure equipment is desirable.
  • A minimum of a Higher National Certificate in a relevant engineering discipline is essential. You will also have or be able to obtain SC security clearance.

What else do I need to know about the role?

  • You will be required to work in radiologically controlled areas (training will be provided)
  • You will work a 36 hour week Monday to Friday with flexible start and finish times and an early finish on Fridays
  • You will work in a modern office environment which incorporates the latest technology and provides the benefits of an on-site canteen and fitness suite
  • Devonport train station is a 10-15 minute walk away
