Who we're looking for
We are recruiting for a Product Owner to work within Babcock International on Defence Systems Technology projects.
As the Product Owner for the software components of an automated communications control and management system you will work as part of an Agile team developing software solutions. You will work in collaboration with the System and Software teams gathering requirements, managing and prioritising them in line with the product strategic direction as well as translating them into Epics, Features and User Stories. You will have an understanding of control systems and remote asset management and an appreciation of systems engineering. You will have the ability to communicate across a wide audience both technical and non-technical and the ability to translate and explain technical concepts and ideas to individuals at any level.

Your responsibilities will include:
Gathering requirements and translating these into Epics, Features and User stories;
Work in collaboration with the team to refine and estimate user stories;
Help ensure all user stories have enough acceptance criteria defined to enable development and from which test cases can be derived;
Work with the team to run and drive refinement and sprint planning sessions;
Be/become an expert in your product, and its domain with the ability to advise and mould requirements to maintain product integrity whilst catering for client specific work;
Act as the team's gatekeeper; accepting and prioritising requirements and defects onto the backlog from all sources;
Working with the team to create and maintain release plans, use team velocity to estimate product work completion timescales, and feed this information into the overall product suite vision;
Ensure that through collaboration with the team that all issue and risks are raised in a timely manner, work with the team to mitigate and resolve any issues that occur;
Work within the multi-functional product team in planning the scope and schedule for product releases;
Prioritizing requirements in line with the wider product strategy;
Representing the voice of the customer within the software development process;
Writing user stories and supporting the delivery team by answering questions that arise;
Participating in daily scrum meetings, planning, retrospective, example mapping and backlog refinement sessions;
Participating in user groups, client meetings and product demos.

What do I need to do the role?
Experience in a software development environment;
Knowledge of scrum and agile principles and processes;
Previous experience in a similar role (Product Owner, Business Analyst, Scrum Master, Product Manager);
Experience with tools such as Azure DevOps;
Ability to translate requirements into clear user stories;
An understanding of both Agile and more traditional development methodologies;
Experience in running multiple projects simultaneously

Desirable:
Experience with software development and acceptance methods;
Experience of working in the defence or public sectors;
As would experience of Radio Communication systems

Qualifications:
HNC/HND or Degree in a suitable engineering discipline (or similar relevant qualification);
Candidates without this qualification will be considered, if they can demonstrate considerable relevant experience within an equivalent role.
