Job Details

Four temporary full-time posts, Monday to Friday, over the winter period. The start date is Monday 09 November 2020. End dates will be determined according to the Clearing House workload for the year, but the posts will end between the Christmas break and late January.

The staff are there to provide support for the efficient processing of applications for postgraduate courses in clinical psychology over the busy winter submission period.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verifying reference requests to ensure the contact details provided for the referee are acceptable for confidential communication.
  • Assessing applications to ensure they meet all submission requirements. This is primarily about decision-making regarding areas of subtlety that our automated systems cannot process and so require human intervention.
  • Liaising with applicants who have not met the submission requirements to enable them to bring their application up to the necessary standard.
  • Manipulating documents to ensure good quality images are uploaded to applications.
  • Dealing with email and phone enquiries from applicants and referees, including communicating detailed information about course centres and the application process.
  • Dealing with mail and scanning documents to upload to applications.
  • General office duties eg photocopying, filing etc.



  • Suitable set-up for home working - reliable wifi, own desktop or laptop computer etc.
  • Effective communication skills both by email and over the telephone.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team, being supportive of other team members.
  • Self-discipline and a responsible attitude.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage own workload effectively.
  • Evidence of a flexible approach to work.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to adhere to office procedures where necessary.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Data Protection procedures.
  • Good keyboarding skills.
  • Good general computing skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly (with appropriate training).
  • Experience of Microsoft Outlook.
  • Good general education including GCSE grade C in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
