About the role

We're looking for a Package Manager to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The SSN Defuel Project is part of the Laid Up Submarine (LUSM) team who manage the safe decommissioning, storage, maintenance and defuel of HM Submarines at Devonport. The SSN Defuel Project goal is to deliver the Defuel of twelve Swiftsure and Trafalgar class submarines, with the first Defuel taking place in 2023. The Project is currently in the pre-planning phase and as a Package Manager you will support the SSN Defuel Project Manager in the planning of future work and deliver.

Using your experience of working on technical/engineering projects you'll work together with the Project Management office to develop and maintain the Schedules for delegated tasks and activities, including identification of Critical Paths and Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA). You'll lead delegated non-complex sub-projects and tasks, including the production of plans, reports, minutes and other project documentation; Resource Forecasting, Cost Estimates, delegation of activities, sub-contractor and stakeholder management; conflict resolution and project communication, ensuring they meet agreed delivery targets and that Health, Safety & Environment aspects are considered.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need an ONC or equivalent qualification in an appropriate engineering or management discipline. An APMP or equivalent qualification in project management would be advantageous.
*We would also like you to have some or all of the following:
*Knowledge and experience of nuclear submarines / military dockyard waterfront operations
*Working knowledge of MoD procurement and project delivery practices
*Proficient with MS Office, including OUTLOOK, WORD, EXCEL and PROJECT
*IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
*Management of Subcontractors

Lastly, you'll need strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to interface effectively with project teams and internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

What else do I need to know?
*The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
