The OU is looking to recruit a Part Qualified Assistant Accountant to start ASAP for 3 months for their Milton Keynes office. This role is working 37 hours a week Mon-Fri, paying between £17.57 and £18.09 ph (£33,797-£34,804 pa), working from home.

The purpose of this role is to provide support to the Financial Services Centre (FSC) Manager & Deputy in managing the day to day operations of the FSC during a period of huge system and process change. The FSC supports specialist teams within Finance & Business Services by providing financial accounting support, control, reconciliation and reporting relating to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and transactional processing.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting daily operational activity within the FSC, specialising in the Accounts Payable work.
  • Responsible for preparing reconciliations including bank accounts and general ledger control accounts within FSC remit
  • Responsible for providing management analysis, information & reports
  • Responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and improvement of systems and processes.
  • To provide support with projects and ad hoc tasks as requested by the FSC Manager or Deputy

Education, qualifications and training

  • Part Qualified Accountant (ACMA, ACCA, CA, CIPFA)
  • Experience of working in a Finance transactional processing area
  • Takes responsibility for getting things done by applying excellent organisational & prioritisation skills whilst working under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Takes ownership of service issues and problems and resolves them taking full account of the facts; strives to constantly improve efficiency of processes
  • Communicates change in a positive and effective manner through influencing and persuasion
  • Experience of applying excellent accounting skills & knowledge
  • Experience of competently using common software programmes, in particular spreadsheets
