Overall department direction
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to help us grow the new Assembly, Integration and Test business area within Complex Assets. You will have responsibility for the integration of the latest Communications and Situational Awareness suites into fast boats and help pioneer future business development opportunities, within the Defence Systems Technology (DST) business unit of Babcock International Group.


We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, collaborative and value driven individual to lead the integration of a new suite of Communications and Situational Awareness equipment centred around the combination of a CoTs / Bespoke Platform Management System. The equipment will be fitted into a new range of fast, cutting edge design, RHIB platforms. The successful individual will be responsible for the planning, installation guidance and test of the necessary systems, this will require collaborative working with both our primary suppliers and our customer to ensure a successful outcome.


Main purpose of role
In this role you will work alongside the Programme Manager and MIC Team to develop the integration of the complex C4ISR to meet applicable standards with assurance from the Chief Engineer. You will also help develop current and future business opportunities in this area, via a sound technical understanding of requirements.

The key activities for the role will be as follows:
Lead technical delivery of the Statement of Work, Technical Equipment Specification and associated weapon systems integration documents.
Develop and control technical documentation to ensure safe and effective integration of all Communications and Situational Awareness systems in support of the wider MIC and AIT Team.
Engage with multidisciplinary subject matter experts and non-technical stakeholders, such as Commercial, Project and Programme Management, Safety, Information Assurance and the System Integration Team, to support development to meet safety, quality, time, and cost requirements.
Plan and support system trials and integration to achieve the required vessel acceptance programme.
Anticipate or undertake root cause analysis to identify shortcomings and recommend potential solutions.
Provide solutions for technical problems to ensure effective project delivery whilst ensuring cost efficiencies and minimising project and technical risks.
Provide technical support to bid opportunities in support of further business growth.
Provide mentorship of junior members of the team including apprentices, undergraduates and graduates on development placements.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
You will require knowledge of relevant standards for engineering design, qualification and acceptance within a Naval Environment (e.g. Defence Standards and Military Standards), knowledge Ministry of Defence documentation and procedures is desirable.
Knowledge of marine system integrations, particularly in open craft is desirable.
Knowledge of the impacts of Marine VHF, Military Radio, AIS, Sat Nav and Radar on the platform design and integration activities is desirable.
You will also require comprehensive working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of tools including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Project.

Experience:
You will require experience of the integration, acceptance and engineering issues encountered for naval platform systems, experience of working with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams, experience of RN operations or support activities is desirable, experience of developing engineering design processes, procedures and tools and experience of creating, collating and managing a complex suite of documentation.


Qualifications
You will require an HND or HNC in Engineering Discipline with significant demonstrable experience and capability and a full UK driving licence.


Security/Joining Requirements:
You must have a UK passport and be a British National. The Successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
