RPI Technical Specialist
Cavendish Nuclear

Here at Cavendish Nuclear we are looking to recruit a talented STEM graduate to be based at our facility in the Berkeley Power Station, Gloucestershire. You will join a team that has vast experience in Nuclear Engineering and provide professionally competent specialist services to our clients.

The role involves supporting the technical input into all radiation metrology operations and provide a technical delivery capability in the calibration of radiation protection instrumentation (RPI). This will be a challenging but highly interesting position which will utilize your analytical skills to aid an experienced team in the delivery of Metrology, Dosimetry & Field Services.

This role does not require previous knowledge or experience with RPI as full on the job training will be provided however a methodical and inquisitive mind is a must for all applications.

This is a highly rewarding position working within a market leading nuclear engineering organisation. We support UK and international nuclear power stations with a range of services and strive to be best in class across our various contracts.

Key Result Areas

* Provide support to the RPI Technical Lead role in all aspects of Metrology operations, such as:
o Developing calibration and testing protocols
o Maintaining technical documentation
o Undertaking instrument type-testing to underpin instrument suitability and usage
o Providing Qualified Person duties as required
o Carrying out technical internal audits
o Attending the Ionising Radiation Metrology Forum, as well as similar forums, conferences, and peer reviews
o Provide technical supervision and training to the Metrology team.
* Ability to work with integrity and impartially, and deliver a high standard of service.
* Support best practice initiatives and improvement activities.
* Undertake calibration and minor repairs of radiation and contamination instrumentation, as required, in support of Metrology operations and to help maintain technical knowledge of RPI.
* Undertake other tasks as required to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the Metrology team.

Success Factors

* All Metrology methods and processes technically correct, in-line with international standards, and correctly documented.
* Technical expertise maintained and up-to-date with legislation/best practice, international standards, and relevant technology.
* All local documentation reviewed and maintained, in compliance with corporate quality policy, to underpin work quality and reproducibility.
* Provision of instrument type-test data to the requirements of the customer and relevant quality standards and guidance.
* Attendance at relevant conferences, forums and peer group meetings with recognition achieved as an authority in relevant service area.
* Full compliance with corporate quality policies and local rules (satisfactory inspections by internal and external audit), with all reports/documents issued within required timescales.
* All personal objectives and targets are demonstrably achieved; assistance given to other group/corporate requirements where required/appropriate.

What do I need to do the role?

* IT literacy, including a detailed knowledge of Microsoft Excel
* An ability to follow procedures diligently with a questioning attitude
* A high level of attention to detail
* Ability to work independently
* Degree qualified in a STEM discipline or a strong technical background in a physics or engineering field
* Knowledge and experience with statistics
* Knowledge of traceability to National Standards
* A drive for self-improvement and development

What else do I need to know?

* The role will be based in Berkeley, Gloucestershire.
* Nuclear experience is not a necessity, applications from all STEM domains will be welcomed
