About the role

At HMNB Clyde, Babcock provide highly specialised engineering support services, including operational maintenance, upgrades and repair to ships and submarines as well as providing expert training to submarine operator and maintainers.

Due to a successful contract win we are now looking for a Quantity Surveyor to joing the team who will be a key team player supporting both the Finance and Commercial teams in identifying and quantification of contract change in the business. The role will also assist in the development of contractual standards and processes in line with business needs on a whole life contractual and costing basis.

You will work with the Finance, Commercial and the Operational teams to drive an understanding of the impact on contract change on the business costs. Measure, value, negotiate and agree change proposals to the benefit of the company.

You will provide guidance, motivation and support to the Business, giving guidance and clarification, enabling consistent delivery of targets and improvement processes and be the Interface with the Quantity Surveying staff within Naval Base Projects.

What do I need to do the role?

You will be a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor (QS) with specific expertise in contract change management gained within a construction or marine engineering environment

As this is new role and the first post in a newly forming team you will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach. You will have a willingness to work on your own initiative with a minimum level of supervision and be comfortable the scope of this role may change as you and the business area progress.

It is essential that you are inquisitive and have meticulous attention to detail, and have the ability to hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a complex environment.

Key areas of competency we require are:

  • Fully qualified Quantity Surveyor
  • Experience gained within a large construction or marine engineering environment
  • Proven experience of contract change management
  • Competent in project planning, risk management and process improvement techniques
  • Understanding of business and procurement processes, with a strong commercial and finance acumen
  • Ability to manage and influence both internal & external stakeholders at all levels
  • Diplomacy and negotiation skills
  • Clear and competent presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Able to plan and prioritise own time and work independently
  • Resilience in order to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • High level of PC literacy

What else do I need to know?

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.

Due to the current climate we expect this role to be a blend of onsite and home based working for the foreseeable future.

You should hold or have the ability to obtain full SC clearance
