About the role

Babcock Engineering Services provide staff to act as replacement crew members (known as S-Role) in HMS BULWARK during her current extended readiness period. This period will include a Docking Period and the post docking readiness preparations for the ship's next operational period. S Role staff are Babcock employees that are contracted and administered under Babcock Terms and Conditions, and day to day workload is directed by Royal Navy Ship's Staff

You will be required to monitor the equipment in their charge, audit associated registers and logs, and carry out rounds of machinery and compartments in their Section. You will bring to the notice of the Head of Group all defects, and any undue circumstances discovered during maintenance or operation. Reporting frequently the progress with defect rectification and maintenance. You will enforce safety precautions, paying particular attention to ensuring that systems under maintenance are 'Tagged Out' in accordance with the latest instructions. You will assist the Heads of Group by ensuring that planned maintenance and defect repair is carried out fully, efficiently and to a high standard to achieve the required standard of availability and performance. You will also oversee any work carried out by contractors and arrange subsequent compartment inspections on completion of work. Ensuring that work carried out has been completed in accordance with the contract before signing for acceptance of the work.

Specific to type equipment course training is included in the post and training given will vary upon experience of applicant.

What do I need to do the role?

Candidates must have the ability to operate and maintain marine equipment, undertake minor repairs and basic fault finding. Good knowledge of machinery operating procedures with particular skills in the Marine Engineering discipline. Knowledge of ships husbandry, maintenance and survey and inspection of hull structure and fittings is important. Experience of operating and maintaining upper deck, ship handling and replenishment equipment, fixtures and fittings is necessary.

Applicants will be ideally educated to HNC in an engineering or technical subject and/or have relevant expertise, in a seagoing or maritime support industry role. Candidates should hold relevant Industrial, MCA or RN certification applicable to their current level of competence and experience.

What else do I need to know?

The role will include a shift pattern.

The successful candidate may need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance and you must be a sole British National.
