About the role
Here at Babcock, our Defence Support Group (DSG) offers maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of military air and land equipment, mobile and in-barracks equipment support, fleet management, calibration, electronics, components and logistic support. We are the one of the largest defence engineering service providers in the UK.
We conduct complex engineering projects to rebuild armoured vehicles to ensure that they remain ready for action. We are trusted to deliver the right equipment to allow the Army to train for and deploy to operations. We work closely with the Army to ensure that equipment is available when needed.
We are looking for a Site Manager to lead and develop teams in the delivery of People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost (PSQDCC) targets that enables production outputs of Army vehicle equipment as part of our internal and external enterprise. Put simply, you will be accountable for the development and ongoing leadership of an effective and cost competitive MRO activity that delivers the requirements of the British Army, worth approx. £6m pa.
Responsibilities:
Vision & Strategy
- Align site activity to the Group strategy for MRO capability
- Own, develop and deliver the site based Vision & Strategy
Safety
- Ensure our people go 'Home Safe Everyday' by delivering safety compliance and leadership
- Maintain a positive, progressive and integrated approach to safety management
People
- Create and sustain a culture that is aligned to the Being Babcock Principles by role-modelling behaviours, motivating, encouraging and recognising the contribution of Team Members
Quality
- Enable through your team, the embedding and sustainment of our 'Target Quality Standards' and recognise its intrinsic link to Safety
Delivery
- Manage the operation to agreed cost, delivery and quality KPIs, utilising a multifunctional team of c.300 direct and indirect reports, with a matrix approach to working with Engineering, Procurement, PMO and planning to ensure safe, timely delivery.
- Ensure completion of activity against the Plan, working as part of the cross functional team to manage dependencies in Resource, SQEP, Facilities, and Material.
Cash
- Creation of annual budgets and re-forecasting with proactive use of control systems to manage billing and cash control in line with short and long term accounting goals
Cost
- Engagement in the customer annual planning activity to enable accurate tactical and strategic workforce planning, training, development, productivity and efficiency controls are in place.

What do I need to do the role?
You will be HNC to Degree qualified and/or substantial experienced in a relevant discipline. You will have a deep understanding of the MRO business model and processes, together with experience in delivering a business objective and change management experience. You will have proven and extensive leadership of successfully delivered complex or transformational projects to time and budget. In addition, you will have experience of leading large teams of direct reports, with a clear ability to inspire, motivate and galvanise cross-functional individuals into high performing teams.
What else do I need to know?
You will work 37 hours per week Monday to Friday and we offer flexible working, please ask about patterns of work at interview. In addition, you must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance before starting in the role.
