About the role

We're looking for an Apprentice Early Careers Manger (ECM) to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The purpose of the Apprentice Early Careers Manager (ECM) is to ensure the apprentice development programmes for our engineering apprentices meet the standards and outputs required by the company.

You will be responsible for the leadership of the engineering apprenticeship programme across the Devonport site by ensuring apprentices perform at the relevant standard required to achieve their apprenticeship.

As the Apprentice Early Careers Manager you will lead the apprentice Early Careers Team and work with the Head of Early Careers to ensure the early careers strategy is effectively delivered across the Devonport site, supporting the needs of the early careers cohorts and delivering against key early careers objectives.

What do I need to do the role?

You will have extensive managerial experience gained from working in a Learning and Development/Early Careers environment and have expert knowledge of apprenticeships and levy procedures.

We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:

  • Experience of working within a changing environment thus adaptable to change and is able to lead change.
  • Strong partnership skills both internally and externally
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Able to communicate and network with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Methodical and organised and ability to use own initiative
  • Customer focussed

Lastly you will oversee 400 apprentices based in Devonport.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
