Weld Training Officer
SF31010
Location: Devonport, Plymouth
Salary: £33,210 - 37,470

About the Role
We are looking for a Weld Training Officer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The Welding Design Department's workload continues to increase due to a growing demand for welding support and welding operatives across the Devonport site. The Weld Training Centre delivers training and qualification to current and future structural and pipe welders across surface fleet / submarine platforms and facilities.

As a Weld Training Officer you'll be responsible for the supervision of all constructive/pipe welders who attend training/qualification within the Centre. You'll supply training support to staff at various levels of competence from novices through to experienced welders undertaking welder training/qualification to ISO, ASME and DefStan's. You will oversee the full welder training/qualification process, conduct visual weld inspections, coordinate NDE and destructive testing, and be responsible for the completion of related documentation.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll have completed a Craft Apprenticeship and a City & Guilds in Fabrication/Engineering discipline (or equivalent qualification) and have significant welding experience. A CSWIP 3:0 qualification in Visual Weld Inspection is highly advantageous.

We would also like you to have the following knowledge and experience:
*The position is heavily weighted towards someone with a very good working knowledge of the TIG welding process, but must also possess good knowledge of MMA FCAW & MIG/MAG welding processes.
*Understanding quality control and the need to follow all related documentation.
*Computer literate
*Experience in a weld training environment is desirable but not essential.
*Will be required to complete the CSWIP Weld Instructors course and examinations in a combination of welding processes and materials.

Lastly, this position requires someone who is self-motivated, always keen to deliver effective results and see an issue through to resolution. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and present technical information effectively and pass on knowledge to others are essential attributes for this post.

What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
