About the Role

The PMO Manager (PMOM) is a key role in supporting the Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) business area within Babcock Naval Nuclear reporting to the Head of Business Management Group, based in Keynsham, Bristol.

The opportunity is being offered as a permanent member of the leadership team as the organisation experiences continued growth alongside the introduction of new and project controls and business management tools and systems. It is a new function within SSE as part of a reorganisation in order to ensure a business fit for the future and offers the opportunity to be part of an exciting and growing business in the UK Defence sector. SSE operates as a satellite of Devonport Royal Dockyard and works closely with the UK Royal Navy and other organisations. You will be joining a recognised global organisation that can offer a wide range of career opportunities and associated benefits across the Babcock group.

As the PMOM you will lead a small project controls team consisting of approximately 3 people, which provides specialist support across the SSE business. The role provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to shape the business tools and processes enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in project delivery and will be required to work closely alongside the wider management team, including heads of Department and project managers, in a functional matrix arrangement. Additionally, the PMOM will be required to build P3M stakeholder networks across SSE and the wider Babcock group, raising the profile of SSE Business Management Group and collaborating with others to develop a standard P3M approach in line with APM principles.


What do I need to do the role?

  • You will hold a minimum of Bachelor degree or comparable academic achievement and be a member of an accredited project body such as Association of Project Management
  • You will be an experienced PMO Manager with experience of running a PMO team
  • You will be capable of working professionally and objectively with minimal direction and have notable experience of project management, methodologies and controls
  • You will have a high degree of computer literacy in particular have good knowledge of project planning tools such as MSP and P6
  • You will have the ability to analyse, interpret and present data and must be a good communicator

What else do I need to know?

  • This position is based in Keynsham, which is situated between Bristol (5 miles) and Bath (7 miles).
  • You will ideally hold current/active or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC).
