Engineering Process Manager
SF34343
Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth
£49,640 - £61,070

About the role

Here at Babcock, we are looking for Engineering Process Manager to join the team at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We are a key strategic partner to our customers the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes.

A significant programme of infrastructure investment is required on the Devonport site to meet the needs of the future MOD ship and submarine programmes. A new 'Major Infrastructure Projects' (MIP) Business Unit has been established to focus on the large-scale facility developments needed.

We are looking for an Engineering Process Manager to play a key role in ensuring our engineering processes are adequate to deliver major nuclear and non-nuclear infrastructure upgrades. As Engineering Process Manager, you will report to the Head of Design and will be responsible for the Engineering Processes and Tools required to meet the needs of Major Infrastructure Projects across all lifecycle phases. This role is key to the successful delivery of our new capability.

Using your substantial experience of complex design development and (ideally safety) practice throughout the design lifecycle, as relevant to major infrastructure project requirements your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring engineering processes/guidance and tools are developed and articulated in the MIP Business Management System, working closely with associated site stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of the BIM toolset for MIP and subsequent knowledge transfer to other site engineering teams.
  • Ensuring Learning from Experience (LfE) and implementation of good practice in the development of engineering processes and tools.
  • Managing the development and delivery of training associated with engineering processes.

What do I need to do the role?

You will be educated to Degree level in a STEM discipline and preferably registered as a Chartered Engineer (or the ability to achieve professional status).

We would also like you to have the following experience:

  • Development of scalable engineering processes to suit both the nuclear AND non-nuclear environment
  • Experience with nuclear design and safety processes
  • Systems engineering experience
  • Engineering software tools and applications
  • Interaction with Quality Auditors and Nuclear Regulators
  • Sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This will require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) Security Clearance.
  • We are happy to talk about flexible working. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
