Environmental Specialist - Rail
Home and office based in Hamilton near Glasgow, will have to travel to sites across Scotland

About the role

Here at Babcock International, we're looking to recruit an Environment Specialist to join the team. You will implement the environmental elements of the Babcock Rail compliance management system, including environmental policies, risk assessments, procedures and guidance notes, and will communicate these to internal and external parties.

You will also be responsible for implementing the operational aspects of the companies Sustainability Strategy, focusing activities around the Workplace, Marketplace and Community.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist advice on sustainability and environmental legislative and contractual compliance for the project
  • Manage the project's Environmental Management Plan, Emergency Response Plan, Environmental Risk Profile and Aspects and Impact registers
  • Implementing and continuous improvement of the Babcock Rail compliance management system to the ISO 14001 standard for the site.
  • Conducting regular internal environmental audits and site based legislative compliance inspections; identifying areas for improvement and non-compliance
  • Investigating events on Site and leading root-cause analyses and corrective/preventative action programmes.
  • Collecting and collating environmental and waste information on Site, analysing data and creating reports
  • Providing advice and guidance on current practices and procedures within environmental and waste legislation
  • Providing to the Site's Senior Management Team and client organisations any performance reporting required and the identification of any potential improvements.
  • Travel across the contract territory to various worksites within the project specification

What do I need to do the role?

You will hold a recognised Degree (or equivalent) in an Environmental/Engineering discipline, and possess an Environmental Auditing qualification. You will also currently have a Membership to an environmental professional body i.e. IEMA. (Associate or Full) or working towards.

You will have demonstrable knowledge of current UK Environmental Legislation, and experience of designing, implementing and/or working with an EMS, certified to ISO 14001.

Previous experience in a construction or engineering environment would be a distinct advantage.

A current and valid driving licence, and the willingness to travel across the contract territory (Scotland) to various worksites within the project specification is an essential requirement to this role.

What else do I need to know?

Working hours are Monday to Friday office hours and you will be expected to work some weekends and nights as and when required. Notice and flexibility is provided for this.

This role allows for some home working, with travel to the Hamilton office and worksites when required.
