About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Field HV Authorised Person.

You'll join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The HV Operation within the Facilities department is responsible for operating and maintaining high voltage electrical supplies across Devonport Royal Dockyard, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the three high voltage networks installed at the site. There are also a significant amount major infrastructure projects currently being undertaken on site which require continuous support from the HV team.

Main Purpose of Role:

As Field AP, you will undertake switching, testing & commissioning duties as required by the shift manager to support the maintenance and upgrades of our complex High Voltage network. You'll ensure the safe operation of plant and systems under your control and issue the relevant safety documentation to cover the switching, commissioning, testing and maintenance for plant and equipment under your control.

The successful applicant will be placed on a comprehensive training programme before formal assessment and subsequent authorisation. Further opportunities for career progression will be available for the right candidate.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll hold a minimum of ONC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering and have experience in the safe operation/maintenance of High and Low voltage equipment. Significant experience as a HV Authorised Person is preferable for this position.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
