Here at Babcock, we are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and eager individual to make a real impact by becoming our next Work Package Manager as part of a major project undertaken by our Defence Systems Technology (DST), Marine business.

The difference the Work Package Manager will make
The Project Team have an exciting delivery profile, which the successful candidate will be directly supporting. The Work Package Manager will be assisting the overall Project Team to deliver a MoD Marine Project and support the on-going business under the Maritime Electronic Warfare Programme.

As a Work Package Manager, you will be expected to undertake the following:

  • Continually monitor and evaluate each Work Package of the project to ensure that it is meeting budgetary and deadline goals.
  • Report to the Senior Project Manager to discuss the progress of each work package with regards to resourcing profiles, schedule changes, project scope adjustments (including change) and forecasts/cost to complete.
  • To develop, maintain and manage Risk, Issue and Opportunity Registers. Including the identification and management of mitigation activities.
  • To develop and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
  • Work with the Project Controls Lead to manage the development and maintenance of Schedules, including identification of Critical Paths & Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA).
  • Work with the Project Controls Lead to manage Earned Value Management (EVM) Analysis for internal & sub-contractor work packages.
  • To analyse and report data to develop a complete and accurate picture that will inform decisions regarding the management, quality and control of the overall project.
  • To manage change control by establishing protocols to alter the scope of a work package, implementing the protocols when necessary and updating configuration documentation.

Who we are looking for
You are someone who can drive success both internally and in the management of sub-contractors. You have the ability to work collaboratively to ensure your part supports the overall success of the Project. You feel at ease building excellent working relationships with internal and external customers, yet happy to lead and challenge where necessary.

Experience

  • A proven track record in Work Package Management of technical/engineering projects
  • Experience of managing Work Packages via Microsoft Project Schedules
  • Experience of managing Work Packages using Earned Value Management reporting
  • Working knowledge of MoD project delivery practices is desirable

Education and Qualifications

  • Certification for training in Microsoft Project
  • Certification for training in Earned Value Management
  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) or APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) qualification in project management or equivalent professional registration
