About the role
The Electrical Calibration Laboratory forms part of a wider Calibration Group, within Engineering and Technology Services. This consists of a small team of Calibration specialists; who carry out and validate the calibration of Electrical inspection and measurement equipment. Ranging from general purpose test and measuring equipment, though to RF & µWave instrumentation.


We are currently looking for Assistant Calibration Engineers to maintain the current capability within the Calibration Group. This role will be accountable to a Senior Calibration Engineer and the Head of Electrical Calibration.


Day to day activities for the role will involve; carrying out Calibration, of a broad range of General Purpose Test and Measurement Equipment. This includes items ranging from 3 phase Switch Board instrumentation, EHT measurement up to 50kV, through to specialist RF & µWave test equipment. For which Calibration Certificates and or Reports for work undertaken, are produced.


You will also be expected to undertake electrical safety test and inspection such as Portable Appliance Testing, of Client owned and Calibration Facility Test Measurement and Supporting Equipment. Similarly you will be expected to comply with methods, procedures and specifications, meeting required timescales and participate in audits.


You will also be expected to develop your competency within the role to aspire to become a Calibration engineer, with a view to becoming a recognised signatory in the field of either DC/LF or RF & µWave measurement, as required to maintain ongoing UKAS accreditation.
The Laboratories Group undertake a wide range of projects for both internal and external customers, applying specialist scientific and engineering knowledge, providing the high standard of service that is expected by our customers.

What do I need to do the role?
You will require to have a minimum of NVQ3 or equivalent in Electrical or Electronic Engineering. Demonstrable experience of working with a wide range of electrical/electronic test equipment. Also to demonstrate compliance with procedures and supporting documentation. An understanding of uncertainty budgets, applicable to Electrical/RF measurement is desirable. Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of software such as Excel. Knowledge of using software tools (i.e. Visual Basic, C++ etc.) to control test instrumentation and collect data via an IEEE488 interface bus, is an advantage.

What else do I need to know?
* The applicant must be capable of holding SC clearance;
* Familiarity with, BS EN ISO 17025 and BS EN ISO 10012 standards;
* Experience of asset accountability software such as METTeam or a similar calibration utility;
