About the Role
Here at Babcock International we're looking for an EC&I Design Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The Design Engineer will support the EC&I technical team in providing their Design and Technical Authority responsibilities to the business. The primary purpose of the EC&I Design Engineer within the Technical Authority is to provide expert technical advice on a number of hardware and software-based C&I systems. The EC&I Design Engineer is responsible to the Principal Engineer for the provision of technical support and advice on maintaining the design intent of existing C&I systems and equipment.

What do I need to be able to do the role?
You will need to have a background in Control and Instrumentation with experience of either designing or technically supporting hardware-based relay logic systems or software-based control systems such as SCADA and PLC control. The role is split into two functions: firstly providing technical support for all of the assets within the dockyard and secondly to provide a design consultancy function of the department where the activities are generally focused on the provision of new, or modification to existing, C&I designs.

We would also like you to have all or some of the following:
*A minimum of HNC or equivalent in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline.
*Robust understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining C&I systems;
*Experience of designing or technically supporting C&I systems;
*Knowledge of hardware-based control logic and/or software-based control; and
*Proficiency in understanding electrical and process engineering drawings;

What else do I need to know?
*The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible to acquire, national Security Clearance at the appropriate level for this post.
*Verification of qualifications/passport/licences must be shown at interview stage.
*This is a permanent position with a competitive annual salary and benefits commensurate to the post.
