Materials Planner & Buyer

Based in Burton-on-Trent

£25,000 - £32,000

My client is an electrical manufacturing company based in Burton, who after recent growth are on the search for a materials planner and buyer.

The team member will work alongside longstanding team members to control current inventory levels vs production capacity and the need to manufacture goods, based on forecasts. MRP schedules production as per bills of materials while minimizing inventory. Looking at requirements within a fixed period and ensuring a seamless integration with the company's production system.

Key responsibilities:

  • Daily management of the MRP process; including the maintenance of the master production schedule, creating material requirement plans and interpreting the data to generate purchase orders
  • You will support with forecasting, supplier relationship management and the supply of bought in goods and components to ensure optimum stock and service levels for production and product distribution to the customer base.
  • Improving the MRP system for maximum efficiency
  • Monitoring bills of materials and working closely with Engineering
  • Allocating stocks to sales and internal works orders (future development)
  • Designing documents and reports to assess timescales and capacity in conjunction with the production planning system
  • Carry out regular physical and electronic inventory checks to account for losses, understand reorder levels and make necessary adjustments
  • Update and maintain inventory location system
  • Maintain and control schedule of Call Off orders
  • Create and maintain vendor database to include lead times and costs in conjunction with engineering
  • Review and replenish stock levels accurately in demand of varying work loads
  • Develop contingency plans for all key materials and indirect materials and services
  • Identify alternative suppliers and negotiate contracts (future development)

Must be proficient in:

  • A natural communicator, able to build strong collaborative relationships
  • dedicated, pro-active and reactive

  • Basic records (bill of material, routings)
  • Inventory management
  • Capacity planning
  • Customer order management
  • Experience with MRP systems (preferably with Sage Manufacturing)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills at all levels
  • Proficient IT skills, including Excel
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English (grade C/4 or above)

Desirable experience/skills:

  • Previous experience of CNC machined parts, Injection mouldings, Pressure die cast parts.
  • Preparing KPI (Onetime deliveries, Cost and efficiency savings)
