PLEASE NOTE: This post is only open to continuing postgraduate Royal Birmingham Conservatoire music students.
Salary: £8.91 per hour
Days/Hours: Average of 2-3 hours per week (during term-time)
Duration: 1st September 2021 to 1st October 2021 (contract to be reviewed and extended at the end of September 2021)
Location: Royal Birmingham Conservatoire

A Job Description
1 Purpose of the Post
The post holder(s) will offer advice and guidance to international postgraduate students studying at the Conservatoire to support their progression, retention and achievement at the University. This may include academic and pastoral support and may require an awareness of and liaison with additional student support services available across the University.
2 Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To provide subject based information and support to mentees that meet their specific needs for their programme of study at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. This support may be made available through individual or group based mentoring sessions.
- To organise and deliver advice and resources to students that help them achieve their educational, professional and/or personal goals.
- To demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the needs of international students coming to study in the UK at postgraduate level.
- To liaise and negotiate with the academic or departmental teams to ensure that appropriate advice is provided to mentees.
- To understand the role of the student mentor and to make referrals to other departments should that need arise.
- To maintain records of student engagement and mentor activities to demonstrate impact of the role.
2.7 To undertake any other duties, commensurate with the nature and grading of the post, that may be required.

4 Supervision Received
The post holder reports to the Director of International Student Support Programme at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
5 Contacts
Students, academic and administrative staff of the University, external organisations and the general public.
6 Other Requirements (including any special items)
The actual responsibilities and duties undertaken by the post holder will be defined in the context of the location and working pattern of the post holder by the line manager.
Some flexibility with regards to hours worked will occasionally be required to meet the needs of the University with advance planning and notice.
The University reserves the right to vary the duties and responsibilities of staff under conditions prescribed in national agreements. The above duties may be altered to suit the future needs of the service. Staff are liable to serve at any of the University's places of employment as may be required.
