About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking we're looking for someone dynamic, ambitious and eager to make a real impact in delivering the highly complex and strategic Dreadnought Submarine programme within Defence Systems Technology (DST).

The DST project management team of about 160 people helps teams deliver their goals, whether they are customer contracts or business improvements. Most of the team are based in Bristol, but you'll find project managers at most DST sites. This award-winning team successfully delivers complex projects worldwide, operating right across different functions, and at the heart of delivery teams working with customers.

As part of the Dreadnought Submarine programme, which is currently the largest programme in defence with a budget of £34 billion, you'll work with senior management and build cross business partnerships in delivering a number of complex systems on time, to budget and contracted quality for our customers.

Although this role is heavily involved within the Defence industry we welcome applications from all project management backgrounds. As well as working on some of the most high-profile projects we also offer a supportive work environment where innovation is at the heart of what we do.

Duties for this role include:

* The timely issue Work Packages to the 'Engineering', 'Build', 'Buy' and 'Product' teams with clear time, cost and quality baselines'
* Providing visibility of progress, performance, risk and opportunity impact against agreed time, cost and quality baseline to the Delivery Lead and Programme Team
* Adhering to the Project Management Plan and all appropriate contract artefacts.
* Stakeholder management of and communication with internal customers and suppliers.
* Management of priorities and negotiation with impacted stakeholders.
* Resource capacity planning through effective management of current work packages and stakeholder engagement to identify future packages of work.
* Developing clear scope from project requirements and formally agreeing that scope and the budgets and schedules for delivery.
* Ensuring supply chain activities are initiated in a timely fashion and are successfully monitored and controlled.
* Ensuring 'Engineering', 'Buy' and 'Build' scope and delivery expectations, including budgets and milestones, are clearly and formally communicated and delegated to accountable functional leads.
* Arranging for Customer reporting outputs as required by the contract
* Supporting the development and maintenance of contract documents
* Ensuring that the status and configuration of deliverable scope is aligned to the agreed contract Product Breakdown Structure and maintained throughout delivery

What do I need to do the role?

You're able to drive programme change and be adaptable in new environments. Additionally you continuously champion high performance, challenge the status quo, actively seek out different perspectives and speak up.

You should be a proven Project Manager having successfully delivered significant projects to challenging schedules. You will have successfully operated in highly legislated markets, have operated successfully in matrix organisations, negotiating resource and prioritising tasks, developed and improved processes and systems that support continuously improvement of delivery performance and budget adherence.
