About the role
The Submarine Department undertake the upkeep and repair of nuclear submarines for the Royal Navy at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. Successful delivery of submarine refits to time, quality and budget rely on effective project controls of which risk management is a crucial part. The risk management team work as part of the Joint Project Team and under the guidance and management of the Project Management Office within the Submarine Department.

The Submarine Department wish to increase its number of risk professionals to match the increasing demand from the Business and are currently looking for a Project Risk Engineer to assist in managing the application and growth of risk management on our next refit. The successful candidate will be a specialist providing advice and support to a Joint Project Team, assuring compliance to Organisational policy and process, assisting risk owners in their duties as risk owners, supporting Zone Project Managers and Zone Owners, maintain the Project's Risk or RAID register, and supporting the Senior Risk engineer as required.

Training specific to the Organisations risk management tool will be provided.

What do I need to do the role?
This is a busy and important position within the Joint Project Team with Team Members seeking support and guidance, therefore, the candidate will be expected to have a background in risk management, experience of working within a Team and managing people. The candidate will have at least an Ordinary National Certificate, BTEC or equivalent qualification and, ideally, formal risk management qualifications such as IRM or an equivalent qualification recognised within the field of risk management. The candidate will need to be proficient in the use of dedicated risk management software and have a high standard of computer literacy. Knowledge and experience of Babcock ways of working in particular the Submarine Department would be beneficial.

What else do I need to know?
The candidate should be SC cleared and capable of holding NNPI, PSA and Atomic Security Clearances. The ability and willingness to visit the submarine during refit, attend meetings within the nuclear refitting environment and engage and lead meetings with managers, subject matter experts and project managers is an essential part of the role. The minimum experience requirement for this role is 1 year in a recognisable risk management position of responsibility.
