Energy & Marine (E&M) is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M Engineering is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the marine and defence markets worldwide. We have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.

The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme as well as providing engineering services to the UK Surface Ship and Submarine fleet. Therefore, we are looking to grow our existing team, building on a well-established foundation of over 700 staff across the UK.

Main Purpose

We are looking for a Project Risk Specialist to support the Head of Planning and Project Controls in establishing Risk governance within the Type 31 Programme, ensuring implementation and adherence of best business practices and that systems and tools are fit for purpose and meet business requirements.

At this level, a Project Lead is operating in support of Project Managers covering specific project function, deputising for the Lead Project Manager or sometimes managing smaller projects under supervision. You will be expected to apply all the central project management competencies to a sufficient level even if operating in specific project functions at points in your career.

Responsibilities

  • To support in the development and delivery of robust project risk management plans for the project.
  • Establish and maintain functional, governance, processes and procedures across the business unit.
  • To support in the development and delivery of robust project controls and risk metrics to supplement the business allowing timely decision making
  • Ensure that the project reporting deliverables are met to time and quality, for both the business and the project

Key Outputs/Deliverables

  • Undertake Qualitative risk analysis activities in support of the programme
  • Support continuous improvement of Project Management/Controls across the Energy and Marine Services BU, proactive engaging with business management activities to ensure the supports exceed business requirements.
  • Foster excellent working relations across the business and site support departments to ensure consistency and adherence of Project risk principles and business procedures.
  • Employ sound data management controls that provide transparency, traceability, auditability and configuration control.

What do I need to do the role

Preferably, you will be APM qualified and hold a Degree in Engineering or Business. You will have essential, proven experience in a Project Risk Management position (cost and scheduling). Extensive experience of Project Risk Management techniques.

You will have adaptability, initiative and problem solving capability. Ability to work under pressure in an environment, which expects high levels of confidentiality and ethical behaviour. You will have extensive experience of Project Risk Register creation and maintenance in a shipbuilding or similar industry focusing on complex new build. Lastly, you must have some experience of qualitative modelling techniques and tools (Primavera risk, @risk etc.).

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance
