Energy & Marine (E&M) is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M Engineering is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the marine and defence markets worldwide. We have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.

The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme as well as providing engineering services to the UK Surface Ship and Submarine fleet. Therefore, we are looking to grow our existing team, building on a well-established foundation of over 700 staff across the UK.

The Type 31 Project will deliver 5 general purpose, global, adaptable and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec 2028.

Main Purpose

We are looking for an IKM Lead responsible for delivering the IKM strategy and protocols, implementing and overseeing the Logistic Information Repository and ILS configuration control, overseeing development and delivery of Datum Pack and delivering associated T31 contractual deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Refine and implement the T31e IKM Policy and Strategy and associated protocols and processes
  • Refine and up-issue the Logistic Information Plan and associated Information Exchange Requirement report
  • Oversee the implementation of the Logistic Information Repository and associated data element requirements
  • Oversee the delivery of supportability analysis, R&M and supply support applications
  • Develop and manage the IKM toolsets training plan
  • Refine the Datum Pack definition
  • Support the development and delivery of the Software Configuration Control Management Plan
  • Develop and deliver the Software Support Plan
  • Ensure ILS deliverables are compatible with MoD IKM architecture and applications
  • Contribute to the development of the iFrigate architecture and signal list identifying additional equipment and system sensor requirements
  • Deliver or contribute to the delivery of broader supportability deliverables as defined in the T31 Design and Build contract and as directed by the Platform ILS Lead or T31 Head of Supportability
  • Support Supportability and Design Reviews


What do I need to do the role?

You will be Degree or HNC qualified in an engineering discipline (mechanical, marine, electrics/electronics or systems) or relevant experience. Ideally, you will be a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status.

You will have experience of delivering IKM solutions and Logistic Information Repositories or similar. Experience of delivering Information Exchange Requirements studies, an understanding of MoD IKM architecture and experience of on-board data analytic systems. With strong written communication skills and the delivery of well-structured, unambiguous technical documentation and reports.

You will have working understanding of appropriate ILS Defence Standards including 00-600, JSP 543and ASD-Series of ILS specifications in particular S1000D. Working knowledge of ILS applications including Slicwave, Flatirons, Arbotext, Isodraw, Reliasoft, IFS and Vault.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance
