Automotive Training Designer
Babcock International, Land
MoD Lyneham, Chippenham
£36,200 increasing after qualified
Military experience is not a necessity

For more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence Company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services. We help customers in the UK and around the world to improve the capability, reliability and availability of their most critical assets within the four market sectors of Marine, Land, Aviation, and Nuclear, underpinned by a deep understanding of technology integration, unique infrastructure, and specialist training.

Within our Land division, an exciting opportunity as Training Designer has arisen to play a key role within the Babcock Electro-Mechanical Training Contract (EMTC) at MOD Lyneham. The Course Design Team is a team of training professionals with various technical backgrounds including Communications, Radar, Control Systems, Medical/ Dental, Automotive, Metal smiths, Armaments that Design, Develop and support courses at DSEME Lyneham.

The wider team deliver in excess of 197,000 training days across 135 different courses and cover a range of technical disciplines from basic engineering hand skills and principles to degree level electronics. The range of vehicles and equipment is vast and complex - Challenger 2, Multi-Launch Rocket Systems and 'bomb disposal' robots to electronic counter measures equipment, medical and dental equipment and the fully range of weapons and support vehicles.

We recruit engineers and academics from all backgrounds and teach them to train to become Dual Professionals. Training our armed forces is both rewarding and a privilege. We constantly ask ourselves "have we done the best we can do each and every day to ensure the soldiers we train have the opportunity to maximise their potential". To achieve this, our trainers need to be the best they can be; which means continually developing themselves, modernising the training delivered and contribute to providing the best learning experience and outcomes to those soldiers whilst ensuring we comply with OFSTED and supervisory care directives.

As a Course Designer you will work closely with Training Delivery staff and the Media team to design and develop automotive technical courses to be delivered to Military students. You'll also be required to work on the underpinning academic courses and management courses at REME Arms School.

You'll design and develop training courses from Training Objectives (TOs) produced by our client, produce controlled Course Training Package (CTP) documents for both equipment and career courses in accordance with the Defence Systems Approach to Training as well as produce and evaluate précis, examinations and assessment packages.

As well as working on some of the most high-profile projects in the UK we also offer a supportive work environment where innovation is at the heart of what we do.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need a teaching or training background, technical knowledge in Automotive, ideally HNC/HND in Vehicle Mechanic discipline, excellent communication skills and have the ability to work alone but also with other members of the team to produce the courses required.

Although this role is working within a military environment we welcome applicants from all automotive training backgrounds.
