Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Location - Great Abington, Cambridge

Rate of pay: £21.50 per hour

6-month contract

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to work for an international Life Science manufacturer.

Job description and skills required for the role - Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Working alongside the EH&S Associate Director and the specialist team you will be responsible for the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies and procedures for the EMEA region.

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside EHS Leadership on the implementation of both the corporate and regional strategy and operating plans.
  • Support compliance programs across EMEA in line with applicable local legislation pertaining to EHS as well as any overarching company policy.
  • Act as spokesperson for the company EMEA with appropriate agencies regarding environmental compliance issues.
  • Management of EHS programs across EMEA according to specialist skills (manual handling, fire safety, ergonomics, laboratory safety (preferred not required), training.
  • Support the Covid-19 response and recovery effort for EMEA.
  • Develop health, safety and/or environmental procedures and support individual functions as necessary in the creation of appropriate EHS procedures and work instructions.
  • Undertake (and support with the creation of) risk assessment in accordance with local law and company standards.
  • Partner with EHS team on incident reporting; investigation; corrective action and prevention regional incidents. May lead investigation and root cause analysis as appropriate.
  • Participate in emergency response for incidents including fire, spills or other emergency events.
  • Support Biosafety/Chemical safety program (subject to experience/qualifications of applicant)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience of biotech or life sciences company preferred but not essential.
  • Extensive demonstrable experience within a similar role in EH&S
  • Experience in IVD/Med Device/Life Sciences industry is a plus
  • Knowledge of scientific principles and concepts preferred but not essential.
  • Presentation skills and experience of presenting to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience of working in fast paced and dynamic environment with fast global business growth.
