You must be a Birmingham City University BLSS student in order to be considered for this role. All other applications will not be considered.

Role Title: Student Buddy

Start: 11/10/21

For: Business Law and Social Sciences faculty

Hours: Variable, no set hours.

Pay: £8.91 p/h (All successful applicants must sign up with Manpower)


  • Purpose of the Post

  • The post holder(s) will be responsible for organising activities to engage international and exchange students throughout the academic year. This will include online activities in addition to campus-based activities.


  • Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • 2.1 Organise and promote physical and virtual events and activities with the support of the International Student Mobility Coordinator and the SSAs (Student Success Advisors).

    2.2 Assist with the running and organisation of Welcome Weeks at the start of each semester.

    2.3 Liaise with representatives of university departments, for example the Students Union, to help with the planning of events.

    2.4 Attend appropriate training as required.


  • Person Specification

  • 3.1 You must be currently studying at an undergraduate or postgraduate level within the faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.

    3.2 You will need a creative, proactive approach to planning activities and events.

    3.3 Excellent ICT and Social Media skills will be required for the creation and running of online events.

    3.4. You will need to work well in a team and be available to attend planning team meetings at least once a semester.

    3.5 The ability to initiate contact, liaise and discuss plans with university services, including the Students' Union, will be essential.

    3.6 An interest in and knowledge of different cultures will be useful in order to engage international students.
