About the role

At HMNB Clyde, we manage a number of activities on behalf of the MOD and currently we're looking for three Electrical Fitters to join us. We provide highly specialised engineering support services, including operational maintenance, upgrades and repair to ships and submarines.

You will work mainly on submarines and occasionally surface ships. This will include electrical work; including fault finding, repair and installation of parts, often in confined spaces and heights. Investigating and diagnosing faults, repairing and maintaining specialist equipment, replacing components and installing and testing cables.

This is a great opportunity to working with a wide variety of different systems, equipment and vessels advancing your knowledge and broadening your experience.

What do I need to do the role?

You will hold a recognised Electrical Engineering apprenticeship, qualified to SVQ level 3 as a minimum and relevant work experience beyond apprenticeships is desirable.

Previous experience within a marine/engineering environment and/or having experience with Submarine Combat Systems especially Submarine Command/Sonar Systems is highly desirable but not essential.

You will have the ability to understand and read drawings with a high attention to detail and keen eye for finding faults.

You will also be a proactive individual with the ability to think on your feet / problem solve, are relatively autonomous, and follow/work to instructions and set procedures whilst demonstrating excellent team working and interpersonal skills.

What else do I need to know?

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.

You must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.

Occasional overtime available.

You should hold or have the ability to obtain full SC clearance.
