About the role

Here at Babcock International, we're looking for a Physical Security Manager to join the team working in our offices in Bristol. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

As a Physical Security Manager, you will ensure Babcock is effective in supporting and delivering Defence outputs, as well as achieving and maintaining security arrangements across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE). This applies across the wide range of jobs we do in protecting our nuclear materials, information and assets. This security role is key to integrating safety and physical security policies to ensure we deliver the required security effect.

You will deliver risk-informed, outcome-focused regulation for the physical nuclear security discipline, as well as provide SME advice to the wider areas within Babcock at Bristol. You will be responsible for articulating, advising and influencing the Group and its projects on the relevant physical security and nuclear standards, policies and requirements, such that they can be analysed, designed, delivered and maintained in the most effective and efficient manner. You will further develop and implement nuclear security measures to protect our nuclear materials, information and assets to meet the requirements of the Defence Nuclear Security Regulator and other legislation, including our international protocols and bilateral agreements.

What do I need to do the role?
You will need a Security Management Qualification, you will need to be up to date with the latest security practice, and you will need proven security experience/security risk analysis and management.

We would also like you to have the following:

  • Experience in the nuclear industry would be helpful; you may have worked in another high-hazard industry or within the security arena.
  • Good knowledge of physical security threats, risks and understanding of health & safety practice.
  • Experience of incident management and emergency planning.
  • Knowledge of crime prevention and crime reduction.
  • A sound working knowledge of security best practice and legislation affecting the security role.

Lastly, you will need to deploy excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to provide an effective interface with internal stakeholders and the customer.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
