About the role

Here at Cavendish Nuclear we are looking to recruit a Cost Engineer based in Whitehaven working for our Environmental Laboratory, a world-class capability for analytical services to support quality, safety and environmental standards, regulatory compliance and research and testing programmes in nuclear, civil and industrial sectors. Greeson Court, located in a modern, purpose-built 4,200-m2 facility in Whitehaven Cumbria UK, provides a wide range of leading edge analytical techniques that can be applied to a multitude of environmental, biological and effluent sample types.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Specialist Services Cost Engineering team within Cavendish Nuclear, the UK's leading supplier to the nuclear industry and a growing global force. The breadth of our expertise means we are able to offer unrivalled experience and specialist knowledge across all aspects of the nuclear life cycle, from design and build, through operations and maintenance, to decommissioning, waste management and remediation.

At this level a Cost Engineer (PMO Cost Specialist (Intermediate)) is responsible for maintaining budgets & cost control, financial management, change management and benefits management under supervision primarily in non-complex situations.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop/implement and maintain the Laboratory Budget / Forecast, WBS, SAP sales orders and purchase requisitions.
  • Responsible for the monitor, control and validation of Laboratory accruals and commitments and the control of resource and financial forecast data.
  • Management and control of financial change management on the project and assurance of alignment with the business/contractual requirements; manage cost risk budget and drawdown as part of the risk management process.
  • Provision of internal and external financial performance & cost reports including variation analysis.
  • Management of the cash flow cycle, responsible for payment applications and raising invoices, resolving any payment issues.

What do I need to do the role?

You will need relevant experience in a similar environment/business sector.

You will also need:

  • Experience applying budgeting and cost control.
  • Awareness of various contracting methodologies (e.g. FIDIC/NEC3-4/JCT) including resolution of claims and disputes.
  • Advanced knowledge of cost management techniques.
  • Experience within a propriety ERP system such as SAP.
  • Good understanding of financial implications, which affect profit & loss accounts, balance sheet and cash.
  • Full project lifecycle experience from bid phase through to close out

Beneficial qualifications:

  • HNC level qualification (or equivalent) in cost engineering or accounting.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering / project / accounting or a related field.
  • ECITB QCF Level 5 Diploma (or equivalent) in Cost Engineering (Cost Control).
  • A professional qualification and membership (e.g. APM/AcostE/RICS/CIMA).

Lastly, you will need to be highly experienced within Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft packages.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
