About the role:
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit experienced Welder / Fabricator's to join us in delivering training as an Instructor for military learners in the welding and fabrication department (Ancillary and General) here at MOD Lyneham.

The successful candidate will be required to deliver course modules to the Metalsmiths of the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers based at MOD Lyneham.

Main Responsibilities:

Welding and fabrication training - mix of theoretical and practical coursework, 10% Classroom based 90% Practical workshop training

Assessment of trainees, this will include written and practical examination.
Marking of examination papers and practical work.

You will need to maintain a Continuous Personal Development (CPD) portfolio in respect of new teaching, technologies and equipment available. Ensuring that lesson plans and training sessions are developed and are in accordance with the current standards.

There may be an occasional need for you to support and repair live training aids using your trade skills through the equipment support department (ESD).

What do I need to do the role?

You will ideally hold a minimum of a City & Guilds Level 3/NVQ L3 Apprenticeship in welding and fabrication, or a Class 1 Metalsmith/Shipwright course in REME, or a Royal Engineers Welder/Fabricator equivalent or Royal Navy/Royal Air Force equivalent or be qualified by trade experience.

Experience of Coded Welding is advantageous.

A level 4 Certificate in education and training (CET) is required for the role. Those who do not hold the required qualification will be offered the course at Babcock's expense and mentored through the program.
You will also need to be eligible to receive and maintain UK SC level security clearance for this post.

What else do I need to know?

The interview process will consist of 4 welding tests in OA, MMA, MIG and TIG. We look for proficiency in at least two of these processes with an outlook to teach them all over time.

The second part of the interview will be a planned 15 minute lesson usually delivered in conjunction with a PowerPoint and in front of 3-4 others to see if you demonstrate the basic requirements of delivery.
