Lead Electrical Engineer (EMC)
SF39139
Business Unit: Submarine Support Engineering
Location: Keynsham, Bristol, GB, BS31 2AT
Salary: £44,205 - £54,320 (dependant on experience)

About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Lead Electrical Engineer.

As a Lead Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer you will be working in the SSE Electrical Engineering Group's EMC Section and will be involved in the various associated EMC work streams required in order to meet whole-boat EMC.

You will be a source of EMC expertise and will be responsible for management of the EMC Testing tasks run on behalf of the customer within the Electrical Engineering group.

The SSE EMC team is a team made up of a variety of backgrounds which includes ex-submarine operators and is currently 4 strong with a strong future growth ambition. The EMC team is part of the wider multi-disciplinary SSE Electrical Group (13 strong) and draws on a wide range of experience in order to meet the customer's requirements.

We are currently looking for a Lead Engineer to join the team to lead EMC Testing tasks, oversee EMC testing in test houses to ensure customer requirements are met, manage the subcontracting of EMC testing to UKAS accredited EMC test houses, and act as the focal point to the customer for EMC testing.

You will be accountable for delivery of (and, where required, attendance at) SSE EMC testing, including:

* Managing subcontracts and/or partnerships with UKAS accredited EMC Test Houses to plan, cost and undertake EMC testing (as required by the MoD or Babcock), in addition to the production of EMC Test reports and mitigation of EMC failures.
* Designing and creating representative setups of complex systems and equipment in laboratory environments to then be used for formal EMC Testing.
* Assisting the development of a capability within Babcock to perform (non-UKAS accredited) EMC troubleshooting (i.e. using methods such as pre-scanning) and EMC failure resolution.

Be part of a rapidly growing EMC team and driving its continued success to date by expanding into other areas of testing services through gaining new customers. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of submarine equipment and customers, with huge potential to develop both submarine and EMC experience and expertise, and learn from highly experienced equipment operators and ex-operators.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll need a minimum of HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering plus required experience or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or science equivalent and be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or aiming to achieve professional registration in the near future.

Would also like you to hold experience in the following:

* Experience of EMC Testing in test chambers
* Knowledge of EMC principles and theory
* Experience with development and review of EMC Test Requirements and Test Plans
* Experience with the review of EMC Test Reports
* Experience in review and approval of engineering deliverables.

What else do I need to know?

* The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involves working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. You must hold current, active security clearance or be willing to undergo the necessary process to obtain security clearance.
* We are happy to talk about flexible working. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
