Senior Structural Designer

About the Role
Here at Babcock International Group in Rosyth, we are currently looking for a Senior Structural Designer to join us. We aim to deliver engineering-led and world-leading products and services across our Engineering, Specialised Manufacturing, Gas Handling Systems and Naval Marine business streams.
The role is within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early stage design as well as supporting the bidding process.
As a Senior Structural Designer you will develop and check a range of technical outputs, within discipline (including General Arrangements, Layouts, Profiles, Deck Plans, Midship Sections, etc.,), in accordance with company and regulatory standards. You will advise and assist in selecting the correct methods and tools for tasks, provide technical assistance to designers and trainee designers within the team and contribute to the preparation/production of design outputs across the appropriate phases of the design lifecycle in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements.
In addition you will belong to the wider engineering capability group and will have the opportunity to support other projects in different roles within your discipline with a focus on longer term career development.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Check team design outputs, and ensure inter discipline coordination in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
Advise and assist in selecting the correct methods and tools for tasks and provide technical assistance to allocated team of Designers.
Contribute to the preparation/production of drawings across the appropriate phases of the design lifecycle in line with recognised ISO standards and to the required; time, cost and quality requirements.
Provide point of contact with professional engineering colleagues and various stakeholders for discipline related issues during design lifecycle, contribute to design reviews and ensure coordination and functionality of design
Where required, assist in the resolution of Production & Technical Queries & development of discipline solutions for the team in relation to manufacturing & installation issues.
Contribute to learning from experience (LfE) requirement, during and post project.
Develop innovative design solutions, and fulfil Design Lead responsibilities as assigned for multi discipline low risk projects
What do I need to do the role?
To undertake this role, you need to:
Have demonstrable experience in a maritime design environment.
Possess good CAD skills, written and verbal communication skills and a good understanding of technical risk management.
Have a sound understanding of marine structural design arrangements and processes.
Develop close working relationships within the wider technical community including other design, safety and engineering teams.

What else do I need to know?
You should hold or have the ability to obtain SC Clearance.
