About the role:
Here at Babcock International we are currently recruiting for a Materials Science / Metallurgist to join us at HMNB Clyde to carry out both in-situ and lab based metallurgical test and inspection activities.

At HMNB Clyde, we manage a number of activities on behalf of the MOD and currently we're looking for a Metallurgist to provide Metallurgical, Destructive and Non Destructive Examination services to HM Naval vessels and customers, ensuring work tasks (plans/schedules/KPIs etc) are delivered safely, on time and to specification.

Your key responsibilities will include:
Conducting Metallurgical, Destructive and Non Destructive Examinations, accepting/rejecting results and producing reports in accordance with applicable procedures. Including the production of Production Technical Instructions and Procedures.

Assisting the Engineering Inspection Manager in maximising the utilisation and the efficiency of all the Metallurgy resource. Ensuring that all tasks are carried out in accordance with the Company's cost, time and quality requirements.
The implementation of the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies in the Metallurgy area of the business ensuring that assessments of risk are carried out which lead to safe working attitudes and practices.

What do I need to do the role?
We are looking for someone a Metallurgy Degree or Equivalent

We would also like you to have:
NDE & DE techniques experience - qualiified to PCN level 2 ideally
Nuclear/Marine Engineering sector experience

What else do I need to know?
You should be eligible to gain and maintain UK SC level security clearance

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.
