Have you ever wondered what it takes to support our Navy's fleet of submarines and surface ships? Babcock Devonport provides multiple maintenance facilities including those for nuclear powered submarines. To provide enduring fleet support, significant site development is underway with multiple strategic infrastructure projects running in parallel. This is in addition to ongoing site / system upkeep and development projects. From the initial capability request through to the delivery of fit for purpose engineered solutions (be that new / upgraded facilities, processes or equipment), we provide engineering capability over the entire design lifecycle.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for an experienced engineer with strong communication and chairperson skills, a proactive and agile approach. You'll need the ability to make professional judgements on the adequacy of engineering outputs and the associated risks, and to communicate these judgements objectively. You'll have sound understanding and application of relevant industrial legislation, Codes & Standards and Design Engineering Practices.

What will you be doing?
A key part of the engineering function is providing strong technical governance and assurance activities via the 'Office of the Chief Engineer' which champions quality, safety and the 'right first time' ethos across engineering projects. The activities you'll lead include:
* Technical reviews to help resolve specific technical issues;
* Design reviews to gauge/confirm design maturity and technical risk;
* Verification to assess the suitability of documentation.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) will provide a lead on agreeing, planning and executing these technical governance activities, representing an opportunity to influence design development and delivery, and to assure the business of the quality of design outputs.

The experience you'll bring
* Educated to degree level in an appropriate technical or engineering discipline.
* Chartered Engineer and a Member of a relevant engineering Professional Institute.
* Extensive experience at a senior level in an engineering or technical industry role.

What a role with Babcock offers
* 25 days holiday + bank holidays
* Great work/life balance through agile working
* Pension contributions matched up to 8% of salary
* Employee Share plan
* An inclusive and diverse working environment
* Autonomy - trusted and empowered to deliver and be your best.
