An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chief Engineer to provide governance of technical development activities and technical support to the RF Communication systems engineering functions. You'll be part of Babcock Mission Systems, which provides support to the MoD for key communications and training systems. Our communications work is based in multiple locations across the country, with our main offices in Bristol.

You will be working in a small but highly effective team where the highest of standards will be expected from both a technical and behavioural perspective. You'll be collaborating with both Royal Navy and MoD staff as well as internal Babcock employees and as such stakeholder management is essential in this role to ensure all groups are working towards common goals in a timely and acceptable manner.

As the Chief Engineer you'll be the Subject Matter Expert on communications systems at relevant forums, coach and mentor junior members of the team as well as facilitating improvements within the Mission Systems business.

Although this role is within the Defence industry we will consider applicants from all highly regulated industries.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing Subject Matter Expertise and Governance of technical development activities and technical support to the Communications systems engineering functions.
  • Contributing to the delivery of Communications systems contracts to time, quality and cost, achieving Customer satisfaction and internal targets.
  • Providing independent engineering governance of all engineering activities on communications projects and on other projects when required.
  • Acting as the Design or Technical authority where delegated.

The experience you'll bring

You will have excellent communication skills and a drive to solve technical issues in support of the contracts. Presentation skills will be essential for representing Mission Systems through design reviews and presenting design solutions to both internal and external customers. You'll be someone for whom collaboration and working in partnership comes naturally.

  • Systems engineering experience ideally communications related.
  • Knowledge / Understanding of electrical / electronic design processes, procedures and tools.
  • Knowledge of Electrical /Electronic, Software and Mechanical disciplines.
  • RF communication systems, design and implementation, including VLF, HF and VHF.
