The Radioactive Waste Management Team characterise, process and dispose of the Devonport site's radiological and nuclear waste. The team are responsible for the management of the maintenance, operation and upgrade of the waste processing plants and facilities they are based in. The 20 strong team are multi-disciplinary science and engineering team based next to the processing plant enabling a great mix of on site and technical work. We work with many disciplines across Babcock making this a great role to deliver local improvements and get to know the wider business.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a Radioactive Waste Design and Safety Process Manager to ensure the radioactive waste processing plant is operational to meet customer needs. This means implementing the safety case requirements for plant operation, investigating and managing the resolution of plant defects and planning work to improve or replace existing processing plant. Someone who is organised, imaginative and persuasive would enjoy this role.
The role could be a full time or part time role. Not less than 30 hours a week. The role would be undertaken with a mix of onsite and home working with a minimum of 1 day a week on site. (Initial training period 3 - 6 months may require a greater number of days on site to gain experience and attend training)

What will you be doing?

* Managing a small team
* Influencing other stakeholders to deliver requirements
* Implementing and managing the safety case for radiological waste processes
* Organising and governing radioactive waste processing operations
* Openly and honestly communicating with internal and external regulator functions
* Using imagination and creativity to solve operational problems

The experience you'll bring

You will need a relevant degree in a science or engineering field, and an awareness of Project Management tools. You will also need experience in a highly regulated industry - one of:

  • Plant operations experience
  • Radioactive waste management experience
  • Safety case management experience

Lastly, you will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
