Babcock Naval Nuclear - Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) team provides engineering management and technical support services to enable the delivery of the Company's key contracted outputs to the client, the Submarine Delivery Agency, essentially to help deliver available and capable ships and submarines for the Royal Navy. The Missions Systems team, within Submarine Support Engineering (SSE), contains both Strategic and Combat Systems Engineers who provide submarine engineering support services to the client, in addition to providing organic engineering support to the wider Babcock business across multiple sites.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Chartered Engineer to fulfil the role of Chief Engineer for Submarine Strategic Systems (Strategic Weapons System and Support Systems). This is a new and exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Engineering Leader to assume a key role in Babcock's contribution to the Submarine Strategic Weapons (SW) Enterprise. You will directly contribute to Naval Operations and the provision of safe, available and capable submarines. You will deliver engineering support to Submarine Weapon Engineering systems through a customer focused, collaborative and integrated approach across Naval Nuclear.

What will you be doing?
The principal focus of your role is to support Director Mission Systems and other senior stakeholders by providing specialist advice and assurance to the execution of all contracted strategic weapon support activity including the delivery of the V-Class Deep Maintenance Projects at Devonport Dockyard and SW engineering support operations at HM Naval Base Clyde. Other activities include:
* Identifying and delivering engineering process improvement proposals in support of delivering the engineering activity to time, cost and quality.
* Be responsible for capability planning for this specialist domain and for the assurance that Babcock personnel engaged in engineering activity on strategic systems are suitably qualified and experienced in accordance with the client's competency requirements.
* The provision of engineering peer review
* The mentoring and development of Babcock Strategic Systems Engineers where appropriate
* Working collaboratively with industry partners within the SW Enterprise.
* Conduct of technical reviews of submarine Strategic Weapons System issues and the production of LFE reports.

The experience you'll bring
* Experience of leading engineering teams and/or as a project lead engineer
* Experience in customer-facing roles
* Leading or contributing to Continuous Improvement activities
* Worked in a related field such as safety-critical systems, and have change control/change management experience within projects.
* It is highly desirable but not essential that you have knowledge of strategic systems in submarines.
* You'll need a first degree in an engineering or science discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Membership of a relevant professional institution (i.e. IET, IMechE etc.)
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
