We are seeking an individual to provide assistance for a visually impaired (blind) IT Degree Apprentice employed by our client. You will need to be dedicated and reliable and looking for exciting and rewarding work. Based primarily in Leicester for work and studies, there may be some travel across the UK. You will require a full UK driving license and a fully taxed vehicle for this post. The role is full time (40 hours), Monday to Friday. This is a temporary role starting in January 2022, for approximately 12 months with a possibility of extension.

The role involves working one on one with the employee and providing support to facilitate their professional role as well as their apprenticeship studies.

Ideally, you will already have admin experience and some basic IT experience or even just a willingness to learn. When you have any downtime, you will have access to our client's vast online learning system so you will be able to upskill yourself in a variety of skills.

As the support worker, your responsibilities will include;

  • Sight-guiding to and from home, during the working day, both in the office, at University and around the city
  • Willing to travel as required on projects
  • Note taking in meetings
  • Help with administrative tasks where visual assistance might be required to keep up to speed
  • Able to work remotely and provide remote assistance when working from home
  • Support whilst using any computer application not accessible with screen reading tools and explaining visual diagrams or describing images
  • Help whilst meeting and interacting with people
  • Assist in familiarising and exploring new environments, talking through what is around and explain layouts of a building/room
  • Read any information which is not supplied in computer format
  • Occasional requirement to scribe
