About the role:

The purpose of this role is to lead the programme and project management of Duqm Naval Dockyard (DND) a Joint Venture with Oman Dry Dock Company and Babcock International. The role will oversee and manage complex naval marine maintenance and repair projects on behalf of the JV partners, including refit work of multinational naval vessels in a multicultural and environmentally demanding location (Duqm).

Directly reporting to the Oman Director, the successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Naval Ship Repair and an overarching knowledge of programme and project management ideally with experience working in the middle east (but not essential). Providing programme and project management support to ODC for complex support of all Naval vessels. A higher level of management is required to enable to work collaboratively and sensitively with the JV partners while continuing to develop DND into the leading Naval repair facility in the middle east.

In addition the role will provide advice, mentor and upskill the JV partners in all aspects of Naval Marine Project Management and Delivery. The successful candidate will champion Health and Safety sharing of information between Babcock and ODC providing and sharing of information and best practice. You'll act as the focal point for the customer and ensure commercial compliance and all technical deliverables are completed. Develop the business and capabilities of ODC including key suppliers and to be recognised as the best Naval Ship Repair Yard in the Middle East.

What do I need to do the role?
* You will need to be culturally aware and comfortable living and working within the Middle East.
* Education to degree level (Chartered status)
* Experience in stakeholder engagement at a senior and governmental level
* Experience of working in the Middle East is desirable
* A basic understanding of Gulf Arabic is desirable
* Evidenced experience in running complex engineering projects.

What else do I need to know?
* The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible to acquire, Security Clearance at the appropriate level for this post.
* Depending on your level of Middle East experience or exposure to Babcock, you will either be posted straight out to Oman or require a period of time undergoing induction in the UK. This could include some basic language training.
* At the moment, due to Covid 19, many of our team are working remotely from the UK but when safe to do so will return.
* The successful candidate can choose to go accompanied or unaccompanied (allowances in accordance with Babcock Global Mobility Policy)

Strategically located on the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula, outside the Straits of Hormuz, DND combines ODC's extensive dockyard infrastructure with Babcock's breadth and depth of experience in repair and upgrade of complex maritime assets, to provide comprehensive, secure naval maintenance and engineering support to international navies and auxiliary vessels.
