Babcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international Naval ship designer and builder. Our Marine Engineering & Systems (MES) business unit is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects.

The Type 31 Project will deliver 5 general purpose, global, adaptable and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec 2028.

We have built on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate, and are pursuing opportunities for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting frigate exports, the engineering team is actively working on other complex shipbuilding programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers, alongside our established in service support contracts for UK and overseas customers.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for six Project Schedulers to be responsible for the preparation and management of project network schedules for the purpose of bidding or live project monitoring and control for these high-profile shipbuilding projects.

What will you be doing?

As a Project Scheduler, you will liaise with Operations, Manufacturing, Procurement and Engineering teams to ensure all planning interfaces and dependencies are fully captured in the network schedule.
You will collate the information to produce bid schedules, regularly analyse network schedule and manage schedule variance and float.

You will develop and maintain time and resource levelled network schedules for Babcock Marine Engineering & Systems projects. You will ensure that Babcock Marine objectives and strategies are fully understood and articulated within the network schedules. As well as, routinely producing and evaluating management information from project network schedule for Babcock Marine management.

You will assist in the maintenance of the Work Breakdown Structure, Organisational Breakdown Structure and Responsibilities Breakdown Structure for the scopes of work. Produce overall project resource labour loading curves, produce and maintain cardinal date plan, critical path analysis and key event plan. In addition, you will assist with quantitative schedule risk analysis and routinely update the network schedule in line with reporting requirements.

The experience you will bring

You will have knowledge of network scheduling with an understanding of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project or similar network planning packages. Quantitative risk analysis experience will be advantageous while good communication skills, with the ability to collate and present information at appropriate levels, will be essential.

You will be proactive with the ability to react quickly when necessary to meet challenging objectives. A working knowledge of IFS is desirable but development and training can be given. Lastly, Marine manufacturing experience or large scale construction experience would be advantageous.

What a role with Babcock offers?

  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Pension Plan
  • Access to make a difference for a sustainable environment for future
  • A tailored personal development and training programme
  • Autonomy. Trusted and empowered to deliver and be your best.
