An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical & Electronic Design Engineer to work within the Weapons Technical Team based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. The Technical Team forms part of Mission Systems business unit within Babcock International. Mission Systems is a rapidly growing business unit which operates out from the Combined Weapons Electrical Workshop (CWEW) situated in the Granby Yard enclave at Devonport.

Operating within the CWEW Technical Department, you will undertake technical activities in support of the Technical Department across all weapon systems supported at CWEW (4.5" Gun, Phalanx CIWS, Harpoon, Triper and future bid opportunities).

You'll develop design task proposals and requirements, lead concept and detailed design solutions to improve safety, availability, reliability and maintainability on multi-disciplinary projects.

You'll engage with Through Life Support, Production and Project Manager to arrange factory and on-board trials to test prototype designs.

You'd be responsible for providing oversight and assurance for electrical / electronic design output of the Technical Team, for designs, production drawings, trials and technical reports. Where required, you will provide mentorship of junior members of the team including apprentices, undergraduates and graduates on development placements.

Although this role is within the Defence industry we will consider applicants from all highly regulated industries including but not limited to Rail, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, and Manufacturing.

What will you be doing?

* Identifying areas for improvement for factory processes, tooling and test equipment.
* Providing engineering solutions for technical problems and obsolescence encountered during production and test of weapon systems assets.
* Undertaking root cause analysis to identify shortcomings and potential solutions.
* Leading tasks from concept through to implementation to defined safety standards, cost, programme and quality.
* Providing technical support to bid opportunities in support of business growth.

The experience you'll bring

You will have excellent communication skills and a drive to solve technical issues in support of the contracts. Presentation skills will be essential for representing Mission Systems through design reviews and presenting design solutions to both internal and external customers. Stakeholder management is essential in this role to ensure internal and external groups are working towards common goals in a timely and acceptable manner.

* Experienced designer of electrical / electronic systems.
* Knowledge / Understanding of electrical / electronic design processes, procedures and tools.
* Competent at performing root cause analysis and fault finding.
