Salary: £22,929.22 per annum, rising to £24,639.53 per annum after 12 months with a further increase to £25,212.53 after 3 years' service

Hours: Full Time, Permanent - 40 per week, with various shifts available

Manpower is recruiting for 50 Prison Custody Officers (PCO) in Bridgend for our client who look after over 1000 convicted male adult prisoners, and remand / convicted youth offenders who are being rehabilitated. This role is suitable for a wide range of individuals. It will be a challenging but an incredibly rewarding career. If you have worked in backgrounds such as education, care, retail, coaching or hospitality you will have experiences and attributes which would make you well suited to this role.

The role

Day to day, you will help to create a safe, secure environment for the offenders in your care who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. Working directly in the prison, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist Prisoner reform
  • Play a key role in providing prisoners with structure and routine
  • Making sure they get to work in the morning
  • Ensure they are actively engaging in education
  • Ensuring the prisoners are secure in their cell in the evening

To apply for this role, you must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years. You will also be required to undergo DBS enhanced level security clearance and will need to provide full details of your work and educational history covering the last 10 years as part of the screening process for the role.

Once this has been completed and returned you will then commence 11 weeks of in-depth training, 9 weeks classroom training followed by 2 weeks on the job shadowing, so you begin your career fully equip for the ever-changeable environment you will be working in.
