Our international client based in Felling Gateshead are looking for an experienced Chemist within Polymers to join a busy team covering a 6-month maternity leave.

Hours - Monday to Friday 36.25 between 8am to 5pm

Hourly rate - £13 to £15per hour

Duration - 6 months

Main Duties

  • Developing new polymers and technologies
  • Testing/support of existing products, processes, and coating systems
  • Synthesis of polymers and characterisation of made polymers
  • Evaluation of polymers in coatings products
  • Characterisation of third-party products
  • Contribute effectively to project activities including demonstrating successful planning and self-management skills
  • Understand drivers for work, product &/or service requirements in relation to business needs
  • Design, carry-out, evaluate & interpret experiments
  • Effectively report results, propose conclusions and recommendations within agreed timescales using appropriate methods
  • Contribute toward Improvement Projects to effect changes as required
  • Demonstrate commitment and responsibility to integrity and ethics
  • Undertake additional activities as required, within the scope of the role
  • Plan, conduct and evaluate trials (e.g. field/application, production processes, equipment) as required
  • Facilitate formulation/technology transfer to production as required.
  • Communicate effectively with team members on items of process, policy etc. e.g. working conditions
  • Follow appropriate processes and maintain technical records to a high standard, meeting local quality standards

Required qualifications and experience

Relevant scientific degree(s) in polymer science or organic chemistry preferred with relevant industrial experience. Ability to design and document experiments and lab procedures to implement work programmes as directed by line management and internal partners. To have excellent written and verbal communication skills to participate in verbal communication situations including meetings, group discussions and presentations. Ability to proactively work with materials and non-standard equipment. The ability to work collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team, and independently when required. Ability to use Microsoft packages. UK driving license would be beneficial but not essential.
