Job Title: Assistant Project Manager

The MSSP team are looking to recruit an ambitious Assistant Project Manager Lead to join the Marine Systems Support Partner (MSSP) team to help develop and grow our business within the marine support sector.

The successful candidate will be joining a strong and established contract team, providing critical in-service support to the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers and the Type 45 Destroyers.


The scope of the MSSP contract covers the provision of equipment spares and repairs together with technical support and advice including defect rectification, design change and integrated logistics support activities. Split across Bristol and Portsmouth locations, the team is Babcock led and closely supported by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) from across the naval industry.

Key aspects of the role
The role of Assistant Project Manager (APM) is responsible for the day to day delivery of Project Management activities, providing confidence to stakeholders that the governance framework is being applied, carrying out assurance activities and supporting the Project Managers and Programme Managers to deliver, by carrying out the following activities:
* Deliver governance tools and processes which support the delivery of the S&E Engineering Programme (Risk Management, Scheduling, Communication etc)
* Carry out reviews alongside Project Managers to ensure Project governance is being applied. This will involve checking TAF Registers, risk registers and schedules to ensure they are being maintained as required.
* Where Project Managers fall behind with their governance activities, the APM will be responsible for providing guidance to Project Managers about application of governance and best practice to support them getting back on track.
* When required and capacity allows, provide support to the Project Managers on the delivery of Engineering Tasks to ensure targets are met.
* Agree and formalise Reporting formats, including collating and distributing completed contract reports.
* Working with the wider Service Delivery team, identify and deliver Process Improvements and efficiencies
* Support across all MSSP Contract Lots with development and delivery of the Engineering programme.
* Providing Ad-Hoc support to the Business Manager and their activities
* Carry out project governance assurance activities.

Who we're looking for
We are looking for a candidate who is keen to develop their skills and interests in project management and who is confident in collaborating and communicating with different stakeholders across a broad sector. The successful candidate will co-ordinate support from the water-front team, engineering, commercial, finance, and supply chain to deliver support solutions across 2 critical Navy platforms.

Experience /Qualification /Attributes:
* Ideally APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) [formerly known as APMP] and is a Member of the APM
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
* Good knowledge of project tools and techniques including Microsoft Project (MS), ERP Systems and financial and resource planning tools
* Knowledge of project management methodologies and working practices
* Strong organisational skills with an eye for detail and accuracy of data
* Proactive and, dedicated and inquisitive work ethic
