An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Prototyping Engineer (Machinest) to join our client, a leading global FMCG company with brands such as Dove, Knorr, Persil & Magnum, to be based at Colworth Science Park in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, MK44 (just a 40-minute drive from Milton Keynes). This is a full-time temporary role for a period of 12 months, with possibility of extension for the right candidate, working a 37.5-hour week, paying up to £42,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.
Ice cream is a large and highly successful business. It is also one of the most complex products to make because of the wide array of product formats and mixing, forming, filling, shaping & freezing technologies involved. The ice cream process development team is responsible for identifying, creating, and delivering innovative and reliable new processes to support the design and manufacture of ice cream products across our world-renowned global portfolio (e.g., Magnum, Cornetto, Walls), (e.g., B&J,), and regional brands that meet consumers' needs.
The Senior prototyping engineer will lead the fabrication and support the assembly of mechanical parts and components to implement new process technologies in close partnership with design team, process development engineers and project teams. The mechanical workshop team is made of both senior engineers with years of experience and junior engineers (apprentices), there will be the chance to learn and exchange views with senior engineers while assisting the junior engineers to overcome possible problems.
The Senior engineer will have a passion for mechanical engineering and assemblies together with a strong interest in food and food processing technologies and will use this to deliver prototype parts to develop processes for sustainable new products that delight consumers.
The successful applicant will work a 37.5-hour week and will be offered a competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience.
Use a broad range of engineering machinery, both manual and CNC, to manufacture prototype of mechanical components.
Use various measuring instruments to manufacture and check that parts are made accurately and to tolerance as per drawings and specifications from design and control engineering team.
Work on own initiative, all while respecting site safety policies.
Skills and Experience
You are a senior mechanical engineer with a robust knowledge and strong experience of programming and running machine tools (both lathe and milling machines). Your knowledge in machining will include understanding of mechanical drawings, (parts and assemblies,) part fabrication/assembly. You are well organised, proactive, and able to work both on your own and within a team.
- Level 3 apprenticeship or equivalent.
- XYZ CNC programming knowledge
- Stainless steel, aluminium, and plastic machining experience.
- Proven experience of mechanical skills and fabrication
- Fluent in English.
- Dairy/food industry experience
Technology protection awareness
