Babcock, Devonport NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) department have an opportunity for a Senior NDT Engineer who specialises in Ultrasonic Testing. You will be working for the Principal NDT Engineer and Chief NDT Engineer, joining the NDT Engineering Team consisting of 13 members, which in-turn forms part of the 165 strong Welding Design and NDT department. The NDT Engineering Team focus on the day-to-day compliance of NDT, ranging from approving a procedure, auditing personnel to undertaking R&D (Research and Development) initiatives to improve processes.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for you to have significant experience in Non-Destructive Testing, particularly in the naval marine or nuclear sector specialising in Ultrasonic Testing. You will take a proactive approach to problem solving, with the ability to manage workload priorities. A flexible approach to working patterns (Backshift & Dayshift required) is important and a willingness to work off-site for short periods of time. You will be an approachable individual, working well within a team, with the ability to provide clear and concise instructions. Your attitude will demonstrate the high importance of product safety and general health and safety, combined with paying key attention to detail and making sure the job is done correctly.

What will you be doing?
* Creating, reviewing, and approving NDT Procedures and Written Instructions
* Developing and validating new NDT techniques as well as supporting R&D initiatives
* Providing expert NDT advice to both in-house Babcock stakeholders and external customers
* Providing 'toolbox' training, guidance, and technical advice to internal NDT Engineers
* Undertaking surveillances, trade-tests, and auditing both on internal NDT Engineers and external sub-contractors
* Taking ownership and responsibility for the compliance of NDT activities within the department

The experience you'll bring
* You will hold multiple PCN level 2 qualifications, including Ultrasonic Testing in the 'Weldments' product sector
* Be a highly experienced NDT Engineer/Technician/Operator, preferably in the naval marine or nuclear sector
* Have significant experience and be highly skilled in undertaking weld inspections with manual Ultrasonic or advanced Ultrasonics

You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance. You must be a British National and be capable of holding NNPI, PSA and Atomic security clearances. This role heavily involves shift work with a salary uplift in Backshift working patterns, as well as agile and flexible working.
