About the role
We're looking for a Security Guard within the Base Services business unit to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.


As a Security Guard you will provide a professional customer service and gateway to Devonport Limited Areas and Granby Yard enclave. Operating effective access control processes to ensure that Babcock Marine is compliant with MoD security contract requirements. Monitoring interior and exterior security through manual observation and the use of on-site CCTV cameras.


You will be responsible for using corporate protocol to greet facility guests and staff, assigning the proper security access to each as per local protocol. Reporting any suspicious activity to the MoD police immediately.
Part of your role will include performing scheduled and random checks of designated areas throughout the facility to check for any security breaches. Collaborating with other members of the security team to ensure that the facility is safe at all times.


You will be expected to respond to life threatening situations such as medical alerts, fire alarms, suspected or actual crimes and other related situations occurring on DRDL property.

What do I need to do the role?
You will need some security and customer service experience.


We would also like you to have:
* Excellent judgement, decision making and making informed decisions based on own initiative
* SIA Security Guard or Door Supervisors Licence (Frontline)
* Full UK Car Driving Licence
* Computer experience and software knowledge of MS Word and Excel
* Ability to write clear daily written reports

What else do I need to know?
* Must be able to work a variable shift schedule including night shifts and weekends, including Bank Holidays
* The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
